Turn a presentation into a multiple choice interactive project that can be controlled by anyone sitting in front of your Mac
When thinking of a Keynote presentation, you probably imagine yourself in front of an audience, controlling
when to move to the next slide. But there are actually many more uses to this program. You could, for instance,
automate your slides so that they move on their own without any user interaction. But the most interesting option is to create an interactive project that would enable your viewer to choose where to go by clicking on specific areas on the slide. This can be perfect for a multiple choice questionnaire or an information kiosk. We’ll show you how to achieve this technique in the following tutorial…
1: The first slide
Create a new project by choosing a template of your choice. Use either the existing text boxes or add new ones by going to Insert>Text Box.
2: Text box proliferation
Make as many text boxes as you need and edit them. Create one text box for each option you need the viewer to click on.
3: One slide per text box
Create as many new slides as you’ve got options. You can do this by clicking on the ‘+’ button, at the top-left of the interface.
4: Editing other slides
Fill in those new slides with different information. This will help you ascertain whether or not your
forthcoming links are working as they should.
5: The Hyperlink tab
Select a text box in the first slide. Summon the Inspector (Opt+Cmd+i) and click on the Hyperlink tab (second from the right).
6: Which slide to link to?
Tick the ‘Enable as a Hyperlink’ box. Click on the bullet point list’s last option. Select the little menu
to its right and choose the slide number to link it to.
7: Link everything
Repeat this for all the other text boxes. Make sure you also create links in the other slides to navigate back to the first one.
8: Change behaviour
By default, if you click anywhere on a slide when the Keynote is playing, you’ll move to the next slide in the list. This behaviour isn’t right for this project.
9: Presentation preference
Select the Inspector’s Document tab. Alter the Presentation pop-up menu to ‘Hyperlinks only’. Preview your work by clicking the Play button.
