iMovie for iPad is a great app for quickly throwing together clips without having to labour at your Mac, and now with trailers added in, you can create something truly Hollywood in just a few minutes. Apple has gone to great lengths to create a system that is not only easy to use but has that typically Apple hallmark of quality. You can tell as soon as you preview the templates that some serious work has gone into them. The cutaways look great, the text styles and theme backgrounds are quality and the orchestral musical compositions are stunning. What’s more, if you have a new iPad, the Retina display makes the content look exquisite. Creating a trailer is a really simple affair. You’ll need to have some movies loaded on your iPad (do this by syncing across from iTunes or recording on the device) and then picking a theme that you would like to use. In this tutorial we’ll take you through the basic steps.
Step 1: Get tapping
Tap on the Plus button in the opening page of iMovie (you need to have the new 1.3 version) and then select the New Trailer option.
Step 2: Pick a template
You are now at the template chooser stage. Scroll left and right to see the templates (gallery is on the right) and then tap the Play button to preview.
Step 3: Create and credit
Tap the Create button in top-right of the screen and then begin to edit your trailer credits by tapping into each available text box.
Step 4: Tab, touch and scroll
With the credits filled in, tap the bottom tab to see this screen. This is where you add your video, which should be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5: Tap the arrow
Tap on the part of the clip that you want to add it to and then tap the arrow to send it into the selected placeholder on the left-hand side.
Step 6: Keep on tapping
Repeat the process until all of the place holders are full and then hit the Play button to see your final trailer. This is now saved and can be accessed on the first screen.
