Most camcorders can produce high- quality video footage that has a wide range of tones and strong vibrant colours, so that what you see with the naked eye is what is captured on camera. By processing your crisp and clear modern video footage in iMovie, you can add vintage-style colours and tones to your clips, which helps give the footage an old-fashioned, film-like feel. This colour-grading effect is a great way to add texture and variety to your documentaries, or to turn back time and create faded monochrome film clips for your dramas. And by tinting your shots sepia you can make the footage look much older, which is a great way to add a romantic mood to your wedding videos, for example. Kick off by finding a modern clip that looks like it could have been shot on an old film camera, or use the ‘Vintage.avi’ clip on your CD. You can then follow our simple step-by-step walkthrough and use iMovie’s Effects filters to add vintage colours and tones in minutes.
