We’ve just hold of one of the first PlugBug Worlds to come out of TwelveSouth HQ, and we thought we’d put it through its paces for you in a lightning review. The PlugBug is a small adapter that plug directly into the wall and allows you to attach your Mac’s charger block directly into it. The PlugBug charges your laptop, but also offers a USB output that is perfect for charging your iPad or iPhone at the same time.

TwelveSouth PlugBug World lightning reviewThe red plug looks lovely; the ruby-like finish offsets the white of your Mac’s plug beautifully. In the box you’ll get a whole range of adapters for every country you can imagine, so no matter where you’re going you’ll be able to pull power from the walls to keep your Mac and iPad charged. The charge offered through the USB is 10W, the same as most of Apple’s own chargers, so you won’t be getting any faster or slower speeds than you’re used to.

We did notice a slight buzz when we plugged the PlugBug in – it’s almost unnoticeable when using in a room with other noise, but working in silence you can hear it. We also found that the PlugBug is designed to sit flush with just one size of MacBook bricks – depending on the size of your laptop you may have some overhang when you connect them up. However, we liked that it was possible to add the PlugBug half way down your cable using the two extensions that are included with your Mac, simply because it offers another option if you’re sitting further from a socket.

TwelveSouth PlugBug World lightning reviewOverall we can’t help but like the PlugBug World. The numerous adapters make it the perfect travel companion when you’re jetting off to another country, and smooth design is pleasing on the eye and the small faults are more than made up for by the usefulness that it offers. We’ll have a full review in an upcoming issue of iCreate, so keep your eyes open for our final verdict.
