Having prior experience with products from the Philips Fidelio range, we were enthused about testing this edition. The Philips Fidelio SoundCurve wireless speaker with AirPlay may seem a bit of a protracted title for any device, but saying its name should be where most effort ends with this speaker. Out of the box, the Fidelio SoundCurve matches a streamline design with smart and simple functionality. Configuring this speaker is a one-time affair. Once synced to AirPlay, connection is secure and open to four generations of iDevice.

Philips SoundCurve - Review - Q&ASet up is detailed through an illustrated guide, so even new users with no prior experience of wireless assembling will manage. The Fidelio does offer a quick way to sync for contemporary users. If in the possession of a more recent router, simply press the WPS button on your router, flip the SoundCurve around and tap the Wi-Fi button on the rear. In both scenarios, simply open iTunes, click the AirPlay icon and choose your Fidelio option to finally match up to your speaker.

Your music should soon be blasting in no time, but sadly that wasn’t the case first time around. Reconnecting the device was a must, even then we experienced ‘jumpy’ volume increasing and decreasing levels when operated in-device. Disconnection also occurred sporadically (then again, that could have been an individual case, or determined by the router). Once you do get into full swing, it’s at this point that you’ll quickly appreciate the audio aptitude of this device. The Fidelio SoundCurve emits a mind boggling amount of volume. The Philips patented SoundCurve design ensures a highly effective acoustic sound. PureDigital sound technology and 3L acoustic volume, allocated to each speaker woofer, means crisp treble and resonant bass.

This makes sound near incredible at the highest levels. The machine’s five-band equaliser automatically handles frequencies for multiple music genres without fuss.

The associated DockStudio app opens the whole device up to even more impressive possibilities and customisation. Seven thousand worldwide internet radio channels are available to stream, along with a customisable music clock alarm, as well as the ability to browse through your music collection and share what you’re listening to with friends via social networks.
