This is an app that has been ported over from a web browser plug-in. We’re actually a bit surprised Apple has let it onto the Store, but we’re also very pleased. Cooliris allows you to complete web searches from your favourite search engines and then it displays the results in a wall of pictures. The effect is very cool; you can flick your finger to cruise past the wall looking at pictures, pinch to zoom in and reverse pinch to zoom out, and you can then double-tap to see what each picture is and the web page it belongs to. This is a very cool app that’s great for image searches and the novelty wow factor, but it’s definitely not the most effective way to search the web. That said, it’s free and a great example of software making the jump from the desktop to the iPhone. Good effort.
