On the newsstand, on the web and now in your pocket. iCreate magazine comes to iPhone and iPod touch.
While everybody is talking about how Apple plans to revolutionise print media, iCreate and Imagine Publishing continue to focus on doing the job themselves with the launch of iCreate magazine for iPhone and iPod touch.
The app, available for £1.19 on the iTunes App Store, allows readers to literally flick through their favourite issues, zoom into images and bookmark their favourite pages, which can be viewed in landscape or portrait modes.
Once downloaded, issues within the app can be viewed even without an internet connection for access to the magazine anywhere at any time.
The app comes with the latest issue of iCreate pre-loaded and notifications inform you when a new issue is ready to download. Users can also purchase current and back issues through in-app purchases and subscribe for six or twelve months.

How much will in-app purchases cost?
I just ask because I don’t want to buy the app if I can’t afford the individual issues. Thanks!
Individual issue is £3.99, but You can save money on buying subsription, as far as i remember 6mo is £21 and 12 is £44.
Great move. You mag is very expensive on the news stand in Australia, and this app makes it affordable and also no delay in delivery.
I’m very happy with this move and looking forward to more magazine appearing in the app store.
I’m happy to be able to purchase your magazine again, and it’s great having the mag in my pocket for quite times.
Like this. Will be getting it when I get back!
thats great news…but what about the cd included in the magazine…will their be an economical way to get the cd’s somehow?
I think that selling an app with in-app purchases in order to gain functionality of the app itself is a bad move. It keeps people from trying it out and possibly purchasing your magazine. Since you would be selling more issues in digital format in addition to the print version, it just seems outright greedy. People who prefer the print version will not switch, but the group of people who couldn’t afford the print version would easily lap on. But because reading on the iPhone/iPod is still a bit of a hassle they are more likely to purchase content if the initial app version and a sample back issue would be free. We all like to test before they spend money. Even if it’s just a $2.
From what I can see in the screen shots, the iPhone version basically contains the print version in format just to be viewed on a smaller screen. Really? You could not even simplify the digital content to fit it’s new format? So now I can go crazy scrolling around the screen to get the text large enough to read, but I have to zoom out to view associated images, only to zoom in again to continue reading. Even Zinio (select free magazines for iPhone/iPod) has found this to be a problem, as well as many other information distributors.
There are a hundred possible solutions to this problem, but I think the route you have chosen is quite antiquated and should be updated. Are you going to continue this on the iPad too? Larger screen but we still have to deal with outdated screen real estate? (Please take a look at the NYT, etc. for mobile reading.) I’ll be holding off for now and just borrow a print issue.
I am having trouble reading the issue on my iphone. I tried to share it to my computer as it would be larger but it will not share to my mac. Is there any way to read this on a computer instead of the phone. When i get an ipad I hope the problem will go away. Thanks, Bob
I subscribe to the printed iCreate, as well as another Mac magazine; however, the other allows me to download the pdf’s FOR FREE as a subscriber. I would like to subscribe to the electronic version (which will be really useful when Apple finally decide to sell the iPad in the UK!), but I resent paying for the same magazine twice. I think Imagine Publishing should consider this point very seriously.
Forgive me, I guess I don’t get out much… I had never heard of your magazine until I found it on my iPad last month. I love it! I love that my mac was built and designed to be a creative home computer (when set up in that direction – I know it is wonderful for business too) I am not a beginner on the computer but at times I just seem to have a creative block in my mental process. It is easy to find information on “Step one: this is your mouse” to the opposite end of writing your own app. I fall somewhere between, and it can be hard at times to find a published article that can meet the needs and interests of all. Just an amazing magazine! I bought the 6 months to try it out but I will be renewing when the time comes. In between I will save my pennines and treat myself to an older issue or two!
I have iCreate app on my iPad , so is there any way to print some pages from the iPad.
Hi Sultan,
I’m afraid the answer is basically no. You could take a screenshot of the page you want by pressing the Lock and Home button simultaneously, then print the image that would be saved to your photo library using an HP printer using AirPrint. However, the image would be very low-res, so you may not be able to read the page. I’m afraid the best way to see the full page is to buy a hard copy of the magazine!
When I download a mag from the app it says i need to download the app that it runs on
Please help
