Tesco introduces in-store iPhone grocery shopping

Tesco has come up with a way to bring the iPhone into play when shopping with its new app that not only finds your local shop but also the products within it.

Harnessing the same technology used by “pickers” who select items for online shopping orders, the Tesco Finder app can point you to a product you search for using simple directions such as “Aisle 29 on the left side, 3 units along, second shelf up from the floor” (for the record, this will place you in front of a bar of Dove soap).

Updates to the app are promised, including links to items in your online shopping Favourites list.

The app can be used at most major Tesco store as long as they are larger than the slimmed-down Tesco Express variety and it’s easy to see whether your chosen shop is compatible with a “Find products in this store” button that appears below your search.

With iPhone in hand and appl loaded, we’re off to do our weekly food shop!

It’s a shame the Tesco app is completely wrong in which Aisle, Shelf, or location goods are in my local store (Durham Tesco Extra).
