Apple has today updated the entry level MacBook. The new unit will ship with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB 5400 RPM hard drive and NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics card.
While this may be just a small bump in specs for the most part an interesting additional upgrade is the move to the same 10-hour battery that’s used in the MacBook Pro. This now makes the difference between the entry level MacBook and the entry level MacBook Pro just a question of RAM and enclosures. In fact, if you configure a Polycarbonate Macbook to include 4GB of RAM as opposed to 2GB, then you’re paying £69 for the aluminium enclosure.
In some ways this is actually pretty cool and shows that Apple are keen make sure the entry level Mac is as fast as Pro line up. In other ways it highlights that even the basic model is pretty pricey. Luckily for Apple, they now have a product that sits in the more affordable (Netbook) category.

Don’t forget your also paying extra for the FireWire not just the enclosure/RAM I wouldn’t mind if they let the basic MB slip a £100 instead of getting an update. It would bring a few more people to the Mac platform I think.
just moved recently to a Macbook and 27in iMac, Macbook perfect, iMac has my Irish Heart broken, Gmail user and Mail just won’t work as it should with Gmail, all settings identical on both machines???? have tried everything, though this sh.. did not exist with Apple, Vista almost destroyed my marriage, that’s why I moved!!
