iLife ’09 Becomes Simply ‘iLife’

by Ben Harvell

Apple has quietly dropped the ’09 branding from its iLife and iWork packaging.

Picture 1Apple has quietly dropped the ’09 branding from its iLife and iWork packaging. While the Apple website copy still mentions ’09 for specific applications within the suites, images of the iLife and iWork boxes are all now bereft of the annual designation.

This move could denote a number of upcoming changes. First is that the suites will take on a new naming convention in their next iteration in order to cater for the year 2010. iLife X is a possibility although rumours currently suggest that a basic numbering system akin to Mac OS X releases will be used with the next versions named iLife and iWork 11.

Secondly, with iLife and iWork moving closer to 18 month update cycles in recent years, the removal of the ’09 tag could be a way to continue to push sales of the existing products in 2010.

Note: Apple’s PR image for the iLife box has also seen the ’09 removed and the file is named 0910iLifebox.tif
