FunnyOrDie to release iSteve movie with Justin Long as Jobs

by Stephen Ashby

The comedy website announces it will release a ‘very silly’ movie about the life of Steve Jobs on April 15th, featuring Justin Long of ‘Mac vs PC’ ad fame

FunnyOrDie to release iSteve movie with Justin Long as JobsThe New York Times is reporting that FunnyOrDie will release iSteve, a movie about the life of Steve Jobs starring Justin Long, on April 15th. The website has made a point of advertising it as the first movie about Jobs, and at 60-70 mins it is by far the longest video that will have been featured on the site to date, which normally focuses on shorter sketches.

Long will portray Jobs – an interesting casting choice considering Long’s longstanding role as Mac in the famous Mac vs PC ad campaign. The New York Times spoke to several people involved in the film:

“In true internet fashion, it’s not based on very thorough research — essentially a cursory look at the Steve Jobs Wikipedia page,” said Ryan Perez, who wrote and directed iSteve. “It’s very silly. But it looks at his whole life.”

Making fun of Mr. Jobs, the Apple co-founder who died in 2011 and who is considered a deity by many people (at least in the tech world), is a risky proposition, even if done gently. But Allison Hord, who produced iSteve, said the tone was such that “even the harshest fanboy critics will be able to laugh with us.”

The script was reportedly written in just three days, with the whole movie being filmed in five. “We might not be the best, but we will be the first,” joked Perez.
