According to a recent rumour, Apple is working on a Siri-enabled Bluetooth smart watch to be released in the next few months. The report by iphone.tgbus.com, via Chinese news portal 163.com, says that supply chain sources have revealed that Apple is teaming up with Intel for the project. The result is predicted to be a smart wristwatch with Bluetooth 4.0 and a 1.5-inch OLED display, similar to the sixth-generation iPod nano.

Apple wouldn’t be the first company to release a Bluetooth-enabled smart-watch; Sony recently launched its Android-powered device, which connects with Android smartphones, and the Pebble Watch is expected early this year after an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign. It’s expected that we’ll see a lot more smart watches being announced at CES this year, too, so Apple will need to work fast if it wants to be the big name in the business.

The sixth-generation nano sparked a range of wrist-straps when people realised its small size was perfect for a touchscreen watch. When Apple added a series of designer watch-faces with a later update, it seemed the company agreed. With the move away from the small screen in the latest, seventh-generation nano, it could be that Apple is making room for a watch-sized device in its line-up.

Questions have been raised over whether Apple would work with Intel for a small mobile device, when the company currently makes CPUs for Apple’s Mac line. However, if the rumours are true, it may also suggest that Intel could be working on more of Apple’s mobile products in the future.

Yes, I would be very interested. In fact, I was very disappointed to learn that the ipod nano’s new design made impossible to use it as a watch. So yes, this is a good news, and I am looking forward to buying the new watch!
