iPad Week – Tutorial: Set Up Passcode Lock

This is probably one of the simplest tutorials you’ll ever read regarding the iPad, but it’s also one of the most important. There’s very little security involved when it comes to the iPad, and in a way it makes iPad owners pretty vulnerable. Unlike a mobile phone, the iPad doesn’t have a cell signal and, as a result, cannot be remotely disabled in the same way the iPhone can. What you can do, however, is put a passcode on the iPad so that people can’t access the device without knowing the password. Like the iPhone, setting this system up is very simple and could seriously deter thieves. If you want to be even more secure you can add an extra function to the iPad and have it erase itself should the passcode be tried and failed ten times. This is a risky option to go for, but if you regularly back up your iPad then a mistaken instance of iPad erasing shouldn’t be too problematic. The passcode is a four digit number of your choice, entered each time the iPad is unlocked.
