iOS 7 Mac icon project: Safari UPDATED

by Stephen Ashby

The second in our iOS 7-inspired Mac icons project updates Safari with a simplified icon and clean design – download it after the jump

iOS 7 Mac icon project: Safari UPDATED
For day two of my Mac app icon project I went for an icon that I have been waiting for Apple to redesign for years – Safari.
The icon’s overall design was fairly obvious; a simple circle could contain the new compass design, and enable me to drop all the extra glass and metal that currently features on the icon.

First, I tried it with a light grey border gradient, identical to that of yesterday’s iTunes icon. It didn’t quite work, so I tried a darker gradient to match the current Safari icon’s border colour. This actually came out looking worse, and ultimately I want back to Apple’s iOS 7 design language, settling on a white border.

You can download the icon below, and you can also grab yesterday’s iTunes icon from here. Oh, and if you’re wondering how to apply these icons, check out this post for a step-by-step guide.

To download the new icon, right-click it and choose Open Image in New Tab, then drag it onto your Desktop

The older icon is still available, although the colouring is not correct

Both gradients looked murky and didn't work with the colours, so I settled on a clean, white outer ring
