For day two of my Mac app icon project I went for an icon that I have been waiting for Apple to redesign for years – Safari. The icon’s overall design was fairly obvious; a simple circle could contain the new compass design, and enable me to drop all the extra glass and metal that currently features on the icon.
First, I tried it with a light grey border gradient, identical to that of yesterday’s iTunes icon. It didn’t quite work, so I tried a darker gradient to match the current Safari icon’s border colour. This actually came out looking worse, and ultimately I want back to Apple’s iOS 7 design language, settling on a white border.
