As mentioned before, should 3G be available for the device, a subsidy would significantly reduce the cost of the tablet when subscribed to a contract. The Wall Street Journal believes that a stand alone price will be placed at around $1000. During an episode of Diggation recently, co-host Alex Albrecht mentioned he had heard that the device would be priced “shockingly low” but refused to provide any other information.

jobsiphoneThe Launch and surprises to come?

Whether it’s Tuesday the 26th of January or Wednesday the 27th as current rumours suggest, it seems likely that the time has come for Apple to unleash its tablet. An unnamed Apple source has told New York Times blogger Nick Bilton that Steve Jobs is “Extremely happy with the new tablet”. Ship dates have been suggested as early as March however it seems more likely that, like the iPhone launch, Apple will announce the product and put it on sale this summer.

Other interesting rumours suggest that there may well be a few more surprises to come from Apple’s tablet computer. Nick Bilton has also been informed that “You will be very surprised how you interact with the new tablet.” by an unnamed Apple source. Cult Of Mac also mentions a quote from an Apple employee regarding the interface. “According to reader Tom: “I just heard [to] be ready for a steep learning curve regarding the “new” Apple product about to be released [and its] interface. This person is an employee of Apple and had just had a meeting regarding some of the new things coming. He/She would not go into details, but did say that he/she hoped we liked learning.”

Conclusion

If we were the betting type we would go with 3G connectivity, a 10-inch screen and a firm push towards the digital publishing sector as definites for this new device but, with the lack of credible evidence available, it’s anyone’s guess as to what we’ll see, if anything, at the end of this month. Fortunately, we have Apple’s stellar product history to rely on. The last time there was a blackout of facts of this magnitude in the build-up to an Apple announcement we got the revolution that is the iPhone. To better that would be remarkable but, given the speculation and excitement surrounding an Apple-made tablet computer, it may just happen.

How come you split your articles onto multiple pages? you will get less readers. Check out my site for more tablet pics. x

One of the photos displays a keyboard (in the ‘design’ section).
Whoever created that image can’t have been thinking straight. The 13″ MacBook Pro doesn’t have a numeric pad, and it’s larger than the tablet. Are you saying that we’ll have keys that are the same size as the iPhone’s keys?

I would just like to state that, for the record, iPad was my idea.

If Apple really does call it the iPad then someone owes me a Coke.

I think it definitely makes more sense than “slate” or “tablet” all duff names that say more PC than Mac to me.

I also don’t think that the wider public really understand what a slate or tablet actually is, and so Apple has a great opportunity to create yet another winning brand and one that sits well with the three Ps – iPhone, iPod and iPad!

Failing that – how about the iPod Maxi – geddit
