Exclusivity ends, O2 Fumes and the White Witch panics…

Thats right people, the era of iPhone exclusivity is drawing to a close. It’s as though Aslan has reared his giant lions head and begun to thaw the winter. OK, so thats taking it a bit far so we wont reenact another scene in which Steve Jobs appears to a bunch of kids and beavers with weapons, dressed as Santa, telling them to fight the good fight for Cair Paravel. But it does seem as though O2′s hold over the iPhone is somewhat slipping. Reports out today suggest that the iPhone 3G could be made available to Orange and T-Mobile as soon as September. Granted, they wont be able to offer the 3GS, but it does mean that O2, who had been able to charge whatever they liked for the iPhone, may have to face a little competition, which should, hopefully, mean that the consumer gets a better deal. Its making us wish we’d not jumped the gun and signed a pretty mammoth two year deal to get the 3GS.

MobileToday.co.uk is the site that ran the initial story but its being picked up by pretty much all the other tech blogs. We can’t see the value in circulating a story like this unless there’s an element of truth in it, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed and will be eagerly awaiting the pricing details that should emerge.
